Two families holiday together in the south of France. They wander down a touristy high street, dazzled by the midday sun. Fifteen-year old Kate is already feeling irritated by the heat when two local boys bump her aggressively. Kate turns to her mother, Julia for support, but she's too wrapped up in her friendship with Sally to bother. Feeling annoyed and ignored, Kate abandons the group disappears into a shoe shop. Rosa, Sally's eight-year old daughter tries to follow Kate in, but Rosa is a younger, and unwanted companion. Julia finds Kate in the shop, and embarrassed by her behaviour, tells her off. Kate feels angry.
Later that day, the families relax together by a river. While the adults sunbathe, Kate goes swimming. This time, she encourages Rosa to follow. They swim out of the slow flowing pool near the adults, unseen by any of them, except for Julia, who watches them leave. The water becomes turbulent downstream and Rosa is not a strong swimmer. Rosa wants to get out but Kate insists they continue. Moments later, they become separated. Kate is pulled under and only barely manages to fight her way to the river bank. She sees Rosa being swept past her. Kate panics and shouts for her mum. The adults hurry towards the shouts to discover Rosa has drowned. Kate turns to Julia for comfort but in the heat of the moment, Julia automatically blames Kate for her recklessness.
Back in England, Kate seems little affected by the incident and Julia doesn't know what to make of her behaviour. Kate refuses Sally and her husband Ed's request to talk to them more about how Rosa died and relations between the two families are fractured. Julia and her husband Tom attend Rosa's funeral, but Sally is upset by their presence. Julia struggles with guilt and is desperate for Sally's forgiveness.
Meanwhile is Kate's nonchalant attitude a cover for more complex feelings? Certainly, Kate becomes upset and angry when Julia refuses to let her look after her younger brother Dean.
This satirical animation short magnifies and dramatizes a seemingly insignificant fly’s death and turns it into a beautiful Italian opera. Since even the smallest death is still a cruel event, our film shows that also the tiniest creature has a voice which needs to be heard – a tenor voice.

We look closely at some of the aesthetic processes women go through in order to fit a standard of beauty. The film is contemplative in a violent way, asking the audience to reflect through pain, opening the spectrum of hidden discomfort in the form of an allegory.
